Two chords. The whole song is two chords. That is not a recipe for success. In fact, if I sat down at my guitar and played two chords back and forth, we’d both get pretty bored pretty quickly. But Stevie Wonder’s “Uptight” defies that. The trumpet line soars, the bass line is fierce, and the melody is so driving that all you can do is dance your little heart out and hope to survive. It’s iconic intro and outro buckle you in for takeoff and announce when that you’ve landed safely. What a trip.
